Can one week really make a difference?

Our best answer to this question comes in a story:
One sunny morning, a little boy discovered that hundreds of starfish had washed up on the beach and were dying in the sun. Frantically, the boy began to grab the starfish and to fling them back out to sea. A man jogging down the beach stopped to observe the boy in this seemingly futile exercise. There were far too many starfish to be saved. "I understand what you're doing son," the man said. "But do you really think it will make a difference?" The boy looked up at the man, then down at the starfish in his own hand. He said, "It makes a difference to this one."

We can't make a difference for every child who has been abused neglected or abandoned. But we have seen the dramatic impact that a single week of camp can make in the life of an abused child. It has happened over and over again.

You can make a difference for this one, or these few, or the many. On behalf of the children whose futures you will brighten, thank you!

A "real" family provides love and support from a variety of members. That is the concept that we model at camp. Along with the volunteer counselors and staff, we have a Grandma and Grandpa, and Aunt and Uncle, whose primary responsibility is to listen and encourage the children. The kids learn important lessons from the Coach, Music Leader and Bible Teacher.

All the volunteers at camp have been trained to work with the unique needs of these special kids.

The children's experience at camp becomes a happy memory that lasts a lifetime. After experiencing the love of the RFKC "family" they can't wait to come back. This is the proven and effective dynamic of Royal Family Kids' Camp.

Who We Are

It's our desire for every child to experience unconditional love, hope and safety.
For The Children's mission is to mobilize the local Church to create life-changing moments for children who have experienced relational trauma.
Royal Family Kids’ Camp is a national organization founded in 1985 by Wayne and Diane Tesch at Newport Mesa Church (Mesa Church) in California. Through their influence and training, hundreds of churches around the United States and six foreign countries have established camps to help mend the broken hearts and shattered lives of abused children.

Our Motivation

We are motivated by the example Christ set to share a common goal, of caring for those Jesus referred to as “the least of these.”

What

Why

Our camp is designed for success, recognizing the needs of these special kids. The activities are intentionally non-competitive and non-threatening. Each fun-filled day includes:
  • Swimming
  • Hiking
  • Wood Working
  • Ars & Crafts
  • Fishing
  • Archery
  • Horseback Riding
  • Bible Stories
  • Singing
  • Evening Programs
Our policy of having one counselor to two children insures that each child fully experiences the total program.

Activities are designed to increase self-esteem and promote positive self-awareness from a Christian point of view. That’s what makes Royal Family Kids’ Camp so unique. For one week, the kids experience a nurturing and caring environment where God’s love is demonstrated to them through the action of caring adults. It is through God’s direction that we are able to plant seeds in damaged lives, which will be transformed, by His light and grace.
The statistics on child abuse in Orange County are staggering. The average age of an abused child is five years old! At a critical time in their young lives, when they holing to be held, cuddled and nurtured, they are instead bing confronted with violent acts of anger, appalling sexual and emotional abuse at the hands of those they should be able to trust and love. Affection is traded for affliction.

A seemingly endless cycle of agony by those who were abused themselves. Emotionally, these children are hatred. Physically, they are broken. Their childlike innocence comes to a horrible, premature end…they are forced to search elsewhere for love.

Royal Family Kids’ Camp helps to give hope! That is why approximately 80 adult volunteers spend a week of their time to be with these special kids.
Will you partner with us?
Through your support, we will take about 50 kids to camp this summer. Because this camp is staffed by 100% volunteers, every dollar raised is spent and every gift given directly benefits the children. All gifts are tax deductible via Mesa Church in Irvine, a fully qualified 501(c)(3), non-profit organization.

We believe one week can make a difference!
