What do you do when following Jesus creates resistance instead of approval?
In this message from our series The Gospel of John: What Does He Really Offer?, we continue through John 15:18–16:4 as Jesus prepares His disciples for a difficult reality: faithfulness to Him will not always be celebrated. Sometimes following Jesus means facing opposition, rejection, or misunderstanding—but resistance is not a reason to walk away.
Bottom Line: Resistance is not an excuse to retreat. It’s an invitation to remain faithful.
📖 In this message:
• Resistance could be evidence you are going the right direction. (John 15:18–21)
• When faithfulness creates resistance, we are called to rejoice rather than retaliate. (John 15:22–27)
• If you assume faithfulness always produces approval, rejection will feel like failure. (John 16:1–4)
John 16:1 — “All this I have told you so that you will not fall away.”
Jesus never promised that following Him would always be easy or earn the approval of others. Instead, He prepared His followers to remain faithful when obedience becomes costly.
As you listen, consider this question: Where am I tempted to interpret resistance as a reason to give up?
If you’re facing rejection, opposition, criticism, or simply feeling discouraged in your faith, we pray this message reminds you that resistance does not necessarily mean you’re headed in the wrong direction. Jesus Himself endured opposition and remained faithful to the Father.
May the Holy Spirit give you courage to remain, grace toward those who oppose you, and the strength to continue faithfully following Jesus—even when the way is difficult.
🙏 Go in peace, standing firm in Christ, rejoicing in hope, enduring with grace, and bearing faithful witness wherever He sends you.
